Which key is stuck

Can you get into the Dell diagnostics? I don't know if it will check either of these memories. Have you tried installing an earlier BIOS version? The problem continues after I get into windows. If I click on any icon, the selection flies to the icon on the top left of the current window. If I type anything it comes out backwards because the cursor constantly moves back to the beginning of the textbox or document. Its practically impossible to use. Even when I try to right-click on an icon, I have to right click 4 or 5 icons to the right of the one I want, and by the time the right-click signal is received the selection has moved left to the icon I actually want to right click.

Everything is happening as it would if the left cursor key was constantly pressed down - except the laptop keyboard has been removed and I'm using a perfectly functional external keyboard.

Since the password entry is after Windows begins loading, there could be a problem with the OS installation. Do you have XP, Vista or Win 7? If this has only happened a short time ago, try to Restore to a date prior to the problem. Try THIS. Never heard of it before.

Its got nothing to do with windows as soon as I switch on the computer I get these really loud beeping - like you'd get if you started bashing keys when the computer isn't expecting an input, or if a key was stuck down. I booted from the dell diagnostics CD and the beeping went on most of the way through the boot until the utility loaded.

The diagnostics CD says one of the keys is stuck - except I have removed the keyboard! New keys and imperfect copies are notorious for hanging on tumbler pins. Spray lubricant like WD makes a great assistant when attempting to retrieve a key stuck in a lock, and most cans come with a tiny straw nozzle for getting into spaces as tight as a keyhole.

Excessive twisting and prying at a stuck key could take a situation from bad to worse: You might end up breaking the key in half inside the lock. Should this happen, you do have a couple of DIY options still available to you before calling in professional assistance. Then, going forward, save yourself the sticky situation! Aim to keep a spare handy to switch into your key ring if your primary one begins to bend with wear—a warped key is more likely to stick down the road than a straight key.

When you get home, keep the ice pressed against the key for 30 seconds. The ice makes the metal lock to contract, and then stuck key becomes free, especially if the lock pins held the burrs. Carefully turn the key and take it out. Hopefully, any of the ideas mentioned above will be of great help to remove your key when it gets stuck in lock.

That way, you avoid breaking the stuck key inside the lock and reduce any expenses on repairs. With the help of a professional, you can easily pry out lodged items, get a new key, or even replace the entire assembly.

Even if you carried out the removal without any help, you still need to call a professional. Getting a key stuck in lock is a common problem in many homes. Common causes of this problem come from rough-edged keys or old locks. However, there are several ways that you can take out a lodged key from any lock. You can start by spraying lubricant into the keyhole and shaking the key. If your key gets stuck in warmer days, you can use some ice to free the lodged key.

When using any of the following methods, ensure you use minimal pressure, especially when shaking and removing the key. Better still, call a professional to dislodge the key and fix the problem causing it to get stuck in the lock. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Dec 24, 1 0 10, 0. Hello everyone, I have a old laptop that I have not used in a while which is running windows 7. Since my laptop is password protected, I need to enter it to get in, but I cant because a key is being spammed.

Is there any way to disable the keyboard with a hotkey, or a way to show the characters that are bring spammed? Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance. Onus Distinguished. Jan 27, 0 19, If a key is stuck, you might be able to unstick it, by one by one giving every key on the keyboard a firm tap. Don't hold them down, just tap them.
